Sweet Something Designs: Chocolate Candy Ornament

Chocolate Candy Ornament

How would you like to make some chocolate candy? What? You don't cook? Hmmm....don't worry this chocolate candy ornament is easy as pie, or whatever......
First of all, I purchased glass ball ornaments at the end of the season last year, knowing I wanted to make these as gifts for friends and family, this year....but these boxes are so inexpensive anyway....It would be ok to pay full price. :)
Next whip out the glue gun, load that thang up and keep the sticks handy, because this step will take a lot of sticks. Begin by taking the little metal hanger thing out, so you can stick a pencil (eraser side down) into the ornament to keep it steady.
Next, start right along the top and glob on the glue, letting it run, working your way around the entire ornament, until you've got something that looks like this:
I like to do several at a time because really, who doesn't have a zillion yellow no. 2 pencils laying around, when you have school age kids Hu? I use the pencils as a cooling rack and stuck them where ever I can find a place until they cool....the glue looks cloudy when it's cool
Now you are ready to paint. I highly recommend this type of spray paint, because it is a specialty paint, that has the perfect shade of brown...I haven't tried regular spray paint, but this is the perfect chocolate brown.
Now honestly folks, you very well could stop here. It looks really cute, just like this...but I can't leave well enough alone...
So, I use Mod Podge to coat the runny area only

Quickly sprinkle sugar looking glitter on

And well, you could really leave it looking like this...it looks really cute with a little bit of sugar on top...

But no, not me...I have to keep going...I mean well enough doesn't like to be left alone...

So with little red crafty berries

and crushed peppermint sticks
I decorated the top of the chocolate ornament...I did a random gluing of the berries and candy cane, you can do as much or as little as you want....

Ok, I'm going to leave it alone now! I added a little ribbon string and bow in the cutest check ribbon
Don't pay any attention to the glue strings, I'll get those off...

That's it! Now you have a super cute Chocolate candy ornament to keep or give to friends and family!

Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you're inspired! Try a chocolate candy ornament today!

Winter break = Snow Fun!

We had a bunch of snow on Friday night and the boys were so excited they could barely sleep. They headed outside as soon as they could on Saturday morning.

This was Friday at 3:15pm.

Now around 4:30pm.

Gift cards galore!

So with so many nieces and nephews that live so far away, I sadly can't really "shop" for them for the holidays.  I wish we knew if they liked cars, trains, or which is their favorite princess but alas we don't see them often enough.  So we now just send gift cards.  Hopefully they will enjoy spending it with mom.   I always let my kids pick out their own stuff if they receive a card.  It helps them learn about money a little bit.  So this was my scrap table last night.  I got a lot done.  My older nieces I picked up cute clear ball ornaments from Bath & Body Works that I altered a bit.  I added a gift card in a personalized holder and swapped out the fragrance for the new "Twilight" scent they had.
Enjoy!

Out of this mess came these!

Holiday Program

Jeffrey had his Christmas Program at school tonight. They made the cutest shirts to wear for the performance. Hand print Christmas trees and fingerprints for the ornaments.  We sort of knew Jeff would not want to participate (the relentless I hate school coming out of his mouth all weekend should have been our first clue).  We tried to bribe him with it being his special day.  We let him pick a place for dinner (Cracker Barrel) and then we visited Barnes & Noble before the program.

He was the last kid in the line of kids and he was hanging on to Jennifer (his teacher) for protection. Even his favorite gal, Mary Grace, couldn't give him the courage to participate.   Oh well, maybe next year.

Boys Christmas Tree

Here are some photos of the boys decorating their tree in the family/playroom. They really love going through all of the ornaments.  I put mostly all of their ornaments on this tree. The wooden painted ones are some I made when I was about 5 yrs old with my mom.  I would love to find a set of them to do with my kids someday.  I bought some plain wooden ones last year and we did paint them, they were just not detailed like the old ones.  You can see the reindeer one we did last year next to the toy soldier vintage one in the 2nd to last photo.
