Annual BBQ In Our New 'Hood

I was trying to think of something to bring to the annual Labor Day BBQ here on our block and came up with two things that some of my dear friends in TN taught me how to make.

Amanda's Broccoli Salad
This is a broccoli salad with raisins and bacon and a sweet and tangy mayonnaise and balsamic vinegar dressing.

Ingredients:

2 bunches broccoli, florets only (5 to 6 cups florets)
1 medium red onion, chopped
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup of sunflower seeds (roasted/salted)
10 to 12 slices bacon, fried and crumbled
1/4 cup of shredded cheddar (optional)
.
Dressing:
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar

Preparation:

Separate florets from broccoli stalks. Save the remainder of the broccoli for another use or freeze for later. Combine salad ingredients; top with dressing mixture. Chill and serve. Shared by Morgaine.

Bethany's Apple Snicker Dessert

Snickers Salad Recipe

This Snickers salad recipe tastes like caramel apples. Using tart Granny Smith apples for this Snickers salad recipe ensures that this dessert is not too sweet. The tart apple balances with the Snickers candy bars beautifully in this Snickers salad recipe. If you prefer a sweeter caramel apple salad, you can add more Snickers candy bars to this apple salad.
Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

6 Granny Smith apples
4 2-1/4 oz. Snickers candy bars, chilled
1-1/2 cups frozen whipped topping, such as Cool Whip, thawed
1 can of  DRAINED crushed pineapple
Preparation:

Dice apples (do not peel). Place in a large mixing bowl.

Chop Snickers candy bars into small (quarter-inch) chunks. Toss Snickers candy bars with apples. Add frozen whipped topping and drained pineapple.

Mix Snickers salad well. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
